How to get the Donato Dozzy Underwaterish Acid Sound

Post by areyouin »

Any hints for getting this type of muddy submarine acid sounds? Mike Parker / Donato Dozzy...

Reverb & Delay for sure. But how should I program the x0xb0x? What's the key?

Examples:

Many thanks in advance.

dozzy is a very close friend, and i've been with him in his studio, but i know that he's just a god damned whiz with things when it comes to chaining effects and layering them. definitely lots of reverb and delay on his 303, but there's also some other random things in there to warm up the sound, such as the moisturizer by ekdahl.

as for mike, another good friend, most all of his synths come from a cwejman s1-mk3, also heavily reprocessed through an effects chain.

i, personally, would kill to be able to replicate some of their sounds. i hear them constantly and would love to be able to work with them.

Chaining fxs and having sends feed each other is a key thing to get those sounds. The trick then is to make it so it doesn't sound too muddy.
I'm working with a lot of hardware, but i'm slowly starting to realise that to get those sounds, i really need to uses more fxs than i can afford :)
So i'm very much thinking of using the computer more as a big fxs box.

@cloutier: have you moved your studio overseas as well? any gigs planned in switzerland soon?

i am moved, but the "studio" is still in my brain, for the most part. slowly adding things and borrowing gear. as for switzerland, nothing planned. i hit up la graviere again, but no reply.

Looking forward to hear what you come up with.

La gravière can be tough to deal with at times. Maybe hit them up again?

I'm a huge fan of Dozzy. Perhaps someone could shed any insight into the sorts of techniques he might be using in his more ambient/spacious tracks? So much space and depth to them, but with a certain clearness to the sound. A few examples:
