hades dont take it to personal, the price thing :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technics_SL-1200

the difference between 1200 and 1210 is indeed only the color.

what comes after is important if you want to know specific functions. like MK2, MK5

don't worry, there are worse things in life than people laughing with the price you paid for a pair of SL1200's.
Like I said, if I'm a fool for buying something at Music Store, then there are thousands of other fools around.
ehm... wait.. there are thousands of fools around ! :D
It irritates me more that posts like that don't add anything to the discussion.

but thx for the kind words. ;)

and thank you for correcting me about the different models.
The only SL1200's I've seen never had those pitch + and - buttons, and I thought I saw 1210's that did, but I must have confused them with another brand of turntables.

I bought one of the numark USB turntables for my old man. The sound itself via USB is
totally fine. I think the needles are the most important part , so don't skimp on them.

I noticed a few technics being sold round here
for 250 each. I am tempted to get one for the living room, but they are so big and ugly.

I've seen them in Belgium in used state go from 200 (in bad condition) to 750 (!!!!) in perfect condition.
I guess 250 is a good price for a decent one.
But then again, as proven above, don't trust my word on prices.

I'm gonna need 2 more at some point in the future as well. (one for the kitchen + one for the studio)

what exactly don't you like about their look ?
I mean, aren't all turntables pretty much the same kind of "big".
The only elegant looking turntables I ever saw were those Hi-Fi ones, and they are so ridiculously expensive I'd never want to pay for that.

In Finland, 2nd hand Technics's usually cost 500€ a piece. The prices inflated when they stopped the production, the only place (I think) you can get new ones anymore is decks.de, and they cost 1300€. 700€ for a new one would be a sweet price these days....

wow !! (-)
I bought mine when it was announced that they stopped production of the SL1200's (I got them december 2010).
I suppose that's why I paid 700 each.
I didn't know decks still had them for sale new.
I'm guessing they took in a huge stock as soon as they heard the news, knowing full well they could ask these ridiculous prices later on.

it puts things in perspective, doesn't it ? :)
