BBDs are noisy as fck, young or old.

They are a primative memory system using a chain of tiny capacitors built into the chip. Each one stores a value in the same way that digital does. They use a very high speed clock to whizz thru the values which always ends up on the output, and I think there is other stuff that is noisy about them as well.

The only way around it is filtering or compression/expansion before and after the BBD which should ideally be built into the circuitry.

They sound great though!

and there's definitely a BBD in that synth. I checked the photos but didn't get aorund to posting until now.

like korg did, can't recall in which synth tho. the built a compressor before and after the chorus to keep the noise under a certain level.

tonight i'll open up my alphajuno and i'll have a look inside.
