There was a really long thread about berghain techno and in it bass was discussed. So start by looking through that would be my tip!
yes, I once bookmarked the topic to get back to it later when I had the time,
and it seems gone nowadays.
doing a search for "berghain" doesn't help me find it back either.
anyone know how to find it back ?
many thx.

thx for that !
will have a nice long look into that (hopefully in the next few days)

just out of curiosity,
but why do you suppose you can't find this topic back when you look for "berghain"
or why my link in the mail I saved didn't work any more all of a sudden ?
something to do with topic-age ?

Here's something I made with Chromaphone in a flash: http://soundcloud.com/18909676a/tube-percussion

Isn't really supposed to sound anything like Corebox, but the general idea of the tube perc is there. To be honest, I think loads of Berghainy sounds come from physical modelling synthesizers that are drenched in heavy effect chains.

i've been trying to get something similar with the vst's that i have with little success, plus i don't have the 200$ to drop a new one like choromaphone right now, so i guess i'm just going to have to figure something else out.

then again, i don't really know what i'm doing and i kind of just wing it until something decent happens, so... :-P

Don't stress too much over the synth's original output. The effects you use on that output are more important.

The thing is that every subtractive softsynth at its very core is a wave emitter with a different sort of effect chain. The effect chain is what makes the synth unique, so pick the one or two waveforms you want to include in the sound and mix them in a relation that sounds good to you, then just start adding effects to that stem through the DAW while listening to the whole track.

kleig... you are dropping some good knowledge! Also with effects... i'd recommend checking out http://www.valhalladsp.com/ room and ubermod. You've practically got the best effect chain ever and can do almost anything with those two. delays/reverb/chorus/flange/...

personally i disagree.
it really depends on what you are trying to achieve. i dont use any effects at all, apart from a very small amount of reverb occasionally, its more important to me to get an interesting sound out of my synth in the first place.
its too easy to smoother things in effects and neglect the raw sound of the synth.
personally i like raw, effects turn me off. there's so much that can be acheived within the synthesis process itself, so much room in the release tails to do interesting things which would be lost by adding effects.

i suppose what i'm saying is a synthesizer is in itself an effects machine.

so i think its a personal thing.

Gotta agree with Steevio. The last thing you want to stick on a bass line is any effects (unless it's an overdrive/distortion).
