Dear Luco,

the reasons nobody signs you is because you send half finished tracks, which have things wrong with them. even if you did send them finished tracks nobody would sign them because you are the biggest DERP who ever lived. even if some cheap crappy label did sign your tracks we wouldn't buy it because your such a DERP. it could seriously damage our reputation if we played DERP tracks in our DJ sets. everyone might think we were DERPs for supporting DERPs like yourself.

Kind Regards

But I can guarantee you that I am never going to be the best. I am 21, married, I work full time, and I am in college. I am only marginally talented at this stuff, and I am probably never going to get anywhere with it... so I have had to (more or less) convince myself that I will be happy with just being able to create.

Sometimes, I wish that I could make it into something more. Sometimes, I feel like I might have missed my calling. Sometimes, I lay awake in bed at night and wish that I could follow my dreams... but it probably isn't going to happen.

But that's just me.

don't panic.
If you're 21, you got many many many years coming, normally.
I started doing this when I was 15 for a year or 2, but back then there was no 2nd hand market, and no internet, so this meant only crap gear to be found (the high period of the crappy digital synths), and no way to inform myself at all except for the crappy manuals. No fora, no ebay.
So eventually I lost interest when I went to univ.
That's probably the only thing I regret in my life : that I didn't keep on making electronical music back then.
Anyway, a completely useless university degree later, I restarted doing the electronical music thing (next to playing piano),
and I spent ages trying to build the perfect setup. Now that it's 90% finished (I'll never get above 95), the thing that most scares me is the lack of time.
And I already do a sh!t job just cause it gives me tons of time free to take care of my kids and to make music.
But then I look at most of the artists I respect the most, and most of them didn't even start making good stuff untill they were 30 or older.
That whole idea of "if you haven't become a professional and successfull musician before you're 20 or even 25, then forget about it, it ain't gonna happen"
is completely irrelevant for electronical music as far as I know.

All you should take care of is not to lose focus !!
If this is what you want to do, and you really love doing it, then keep on doing it.
That's what I always try to tell myself.
But I also try stay realistic about it : if I never get anything released, then so be it.
That's not gonna stop me from making music at all !! Not for a single second !

It frustrates me more that even with the sh!t-job that gives me heaps of spare time, it's still quite hard to find enough time to make music (than the thought if I will ever get something released or not).
Somehow real life always takes over more and more and MORE of my time.
I just had 10 days off, and in those 10 days, I only did 10 pages of a manual I still had to go through, made a few clips in Live, made some patches, arranged some samples, and that's pretty much it music-wise.
I did take care of my sisters kids one day, and have been taking care of my youngest for the last 4 days since she's been sick.
Yesterday evening I spent 6 hours in the emergencies, only to have some dumb-ass specialist confirm what I already "knew" (read : strongly suspected).

Anyways, I was trying to cheer you up, not disilussion you
to sum it up : many great producers haven't made anything good untill they were 30 or older,
and even if you take way longer than that, no one's gonna look at some producer and say "ahh, that guy's tracks suck cause he's like a dinosaur of 40"
age is not important in electronical music !

Thanks a lot man... that was really encouraging. Sometimes I get all stressed out over guys like Porter Robinson and Madeon - kids younger than I am that have already accomplished more than I probably ever will - and I let it get me all bent out of shape.

I'll try to come back to this post when I'm feeling down on myself. Thanks again.

I was reading this article about about Low-Literacy Users on the web and my mind kept drifting to Luco...
Apparently 43% of Americans are classified as low literacy adults and the percentages are similar in all developed countries. Kind of disturbing... its no wonder so many idiots get elected into office these days. I found it to be an interesting read. If you don't feel like reading it, I can sum it up in once sentence. Pfizer funded a study and found that its best to write at a 6th grade level unless your target audience is going to be a high literacy group.

I think derp is an English insult, I seem to recall now that it came up in a conversation a few months back with this girl from England. She was telling me about all kinds of outlandish colloquialisms she grew up with. It means a stupid person I believe.

i think its a web insult, never heard it in England before, but the range of dialects in England is huge, people from the south can hardly understand a broad North Eastern accent, when i went to Uni only 90 miles south of where i live, no-one could understand me, i had to adapt to the local dialect to have a conversation.
now ive got a bland average north english accent through moving around alot.
