i just picked up iPad2 and Lemur today. its quite cool actually. super customizable. i'd compare it with touchOSC but i think its more customizable because of the scripting. I havn't gotten that deep into it yet... actually the thing that bothers me the most right now is how to connect this to the computer... wifi on all the apps seems a little shifty. I want some device that provides with way less latency...

the iConnect midi actually seems the way to go because you will always have power to your ipad... but its pretty large in size.

afaik there are only these three options.
the specs of the iconnect are very interesting because of 2x standard midi in/outs + the possibility to connect 2 ipads (or an ipad + iphone) and you can even connect an usb hub for 8x usb midi devices. is more expensive but offers a lot.
the advantages of the camera connection kit and the mobilizer are price and size.
depending on what you already have it can be the one or the other

Wifi midi fuckin blows...big time. I have the line6 midi mobilizer and it works like a charm.
As far as lemur, I'm not sure about how I would use it. I don't do a whole lot of automation aside from the tape delay in logic. A lot of the demos I see have like every slider moving on a vst.

I'm thinking about making some custom controllers for some of my hardware. specifically octatrack or machinedrum... it could be extremely useful to access some additional parameters that are not immediately available on those devices..Phase Ghost wrote:Wifi midi fuckin blows...big time. There is a MASSIVE difference. Don't get version 1. It came out before CoreMidi and has it's own platform for midi. CoreMidi is and will be the standard from here on out. I have a ton of iPad music apps but the ones I find I actually use are the following:
For sequencing:
Phaedra
Genome
(there are also Little MIDI Machine and StepPolyArp but I don't find I use them much anymore now that I have Phaedra)
For controlling Ableton Live:
Griid
Kapture Pad
(there are also great apps like Lemur or TouchOSC but I tend to prefer real knobs and faders over touch screen ones)
For playing instruments:
SoundPrismPro (brilliant for playing chords on your poly synths, hardware or soft)
For synthesizers:
Animoog
There are a ton of other great instruments (iMS-20, Sunrizer, iElectribe, FunkBox etc) but I agree with what someone else said earlier in this thread that I am more interested in new innovative instruments that leverage the platform rather than recreations of hardware or VSTs. I think Animoog is a great example of a synth that does a great job of this.

I purchased Lemur and i think it is amazing. with my couple hours of playing with it the integration to the device is flawless(hopefully so when you've got it tricked out to the max)... whats so cool is you can interact with the elements as your are programming them while its in sync. Even though it isn't physical, you can really design something special with it.
Mu is a max4live patch which exposes a lot of stuff to use with the lemur. Seems very exciting to me.
with midi/cv I think you could build your own sequencer with it... so in that regards i really think there is something special with this software.
