I agree. I think that's a good idea! Heard from many people about analog summing advantages. SSL compressor also cool, but it very expensive. Not shure about clones quality.

As for UAD, ive never had the hardware equivalent of most of the units but I can say they do sound fantastic and shame anything else I've used itb. The studer 8000 and moog filter are must buys if you do.

But if you are just learning, going on my own experience, you've a long long way to go before you should be too bothered about mastering. Learn basic subtractive synthesis, learn sequencing, learn sampling, master the editing tools of your daw and just keep creating.

i'm not a noob, but not a pro =) of course i know basics of subtractive syntesis, sampling e.t.c. i'm finding way to do my sound better with hardware

my advice would be to invest 2000 in room treatment, it makes no sense to have the best converters and monitors if your room has problems (exception being you know your room insideout and know really well how mixes in your room translates in the outer world) and the rest in equipment, but after you treated your room.

gearslutz.com is a great source, there is a "studio building and acoustic" section where a lot of competent people are willing to help, and a lot of photos of DYI room treatments, no need to blow 3000 USD in ready made panels when you can do your own at a fraction of the cost.

should you decide to buy only equipment and not treat the room, don't buy everything at once, just one piece of kit at the time, so that you'll learn them all inside out, no point in having a room full of stuff you hardly can do anything with it.

you have a lot of money now, i guess you worked hard to earn it, so do yourself a favour and don't blow it quickly, be patient.

don't buy a compressor those itb are good to start with
do accoustics by yourselves!!! there are plenty of diy tuts on youtube, sound on sound etc

to start with:
if you really really really sure you want to go outside the box???

- a good soundcard with fe 8 or 16 ins and out
- a drumcomputer than i would i think go for a jomox xbase 888, 999 or vermona drm1mk...
- a monosynth like doepfer dark energy or so something in that price range
- another synth mayby prophet08 from dsi or tetra if you want to reduce the price a bit.
- for the rest a pair of nice monitors and a pair of nice headphones

your 4000 will be spend allready here,
and if you still have some money by a nice fm plug in..... some nice fx itb....
