On about the Atari STE - Check this: http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2010/03/10/atari-ste/

Worlds tightest music computer?

Dang! I should get one. I don't need tons of midi sh!t for sequencing, just solid timing.

last time me an pehr played live (as Kretipleti) we used machinedrum + monomachine + ableton. worked like a charm. need to buy a MD for myself when the money flows enough.
very good to do live patterns, screw around with sounds and do technooo. this gig it was used a lot for hihat sounds / higher frequencies.

excerpt from the gig:

Is there a trick how you start the clips in Ableton and the MD at exactly the same time? Sync itself is solid now. I know it's probably a very idiotic question :D

I don't use either of those, but I can assume it's just standard midi clock. One needs to send it and the other needs to receive. Midi clock is a dead simple 1 byte protocol.

Have you adjusted latency on the device sending the clock? That may be causing any startup delay.

Yep, I'll try that.

Edit: got it to work - both the latency and sample start sorted

Check if in the MD the control is ON.
Check out your midi preferences on ableton and put remote ON.
Create a midi track in the MD and try to midi learn in ableton.

Any of you guys use an extra controller for better control and instant access over some of the parameters?

I did have a long time to play around with ruinWesen's MiniCommand : http://ruinwesen.com/ very very handy/sturdy/smart device for the MD. Really extends it in a way no MIDI controller can.
