rad i'll try that... i didn't think the moogerfooger has a fast enough attack for this? i'm skeptical!steevio wrote:an analogue filter.hydrogen wrote:What's the best tools to control the peaks of a clap/snare? Any recommended compression settings?
i use a moogerfooger with plenty of envelope.
you can get a good array of different textures, way better than a compressor.

Hmm, sounds like a good idea. I haven't tried the Moogerfooger filter on snares or claps before.
Re: Another How to Make That 'crack' snare/clap?
its great on the 909 clap, because if you dont use the envelope, you get the reverb tail, but if you do you get a clean crunchy clap without the reverb, and of course you've got everything in between.Barfunkel wrote:Hmm, sounds like a good idea. i never use compressors on anything, i always use analogue filters.

Nice. Makes sense since the moog filter have it's own sense of overdrive/saturation. Does a similar effect. Cool tip steevio.steevio wrote:i never use compressors on anything, i always use analogue filters.

i use one for snares / clap type stuff
the other for hi-hats /shakers etc.
i used to have an MF105, but i hated the fixed resonance, fixed band filters, a missed opportunity there.
so i got rid.

I didn't think that this would really work out that well, until I got my Apogee one and tried it myself. I managed to get an awesome sounding clap the first time around. I used the looper effect in Live to overdub more and more of my own live claps on top of each other. Worked really nice. Like mentioned above, layered with your snare of choice it adds a nice quality.hydrogen wrote:I like to record my claps with microphone. And in the hallway of my house. Then use gate, compression and eq. I record a bunch and overlay them. To get a party clap sound. Mixed with a classic drum machine snare it's almost perfect for me.
One very crack-y clap that's worth hunting down a sample of is the Oberheim DMX clap. It's a pretty famous sound and different than the Roland type clap.

This new version of phpbb shortens the link, which is okay I guess, but if you preview your post first, before posting, then the link doesn't work...AK wrote: Yeah, thanks for that. Dunno what happened there.
