Another How to Make That 'crack' snare/clap?

Post by N - Jay »

Hi guys,

I know some people here don't like these requests and of a lot of the sounds can be dissected with logic and knowledge of waveforms but this is one I cannot seem to put down.

I've been wondering what does that "crack" snare or clap is being made of?
It seems like mulitple instances of one snare(sample) being glued together and compressed.

Maybe you could give me some hints ;) Some direction.

claps are one of the hardest things to synthesize.

the claps you hear on countless techno and house records are usually the analogue ones from the TR909. (if you read the link below its explains how its done, it uses a digital noise source and analogue circuitry)

they can easily be disguised by filtering to sound like they arent 909 claps, so even if they dont sound like it, there's a good chance they are,

this might shed some light on it,

Thanks Steevio. That sample on the website comes close to what I mean.
"The strike is a fast envelope with four closely spaced peaks". So you can pull those peaks more apart so it sounds wider and more like that crack?

Is this possible at home or do you have to buy the raca?

I like to record my claps with microphone. And in the hallway of my house. Then use gate, compression and eq. I record a bunch and overlay them. To get a party clap sound. Mixed with a classic drum machine snare it's almost perfect for me.

Speaking of claps, the Vermona DRM1 mk III has like the best analogue clap ever. I wonder why they chose to make a dedicated kick module instead of a dedicated clap module.
