Hi guys,
these days i'm quite closed into vocals, and i'ld like to know how can i let the vocals play like if i'm opening the cutoff of a synth?!?!
I think i should use a filter..any advices or recommendations for it?
Moreover what's your favourite tips/tricks with vocals?
Cheers
Vocals
hi,
in my way of doing things vocals are either left dry and natural, or the opposite, plenty of effects and or stuttering.
But, human speech needs to cover a broad frequency range to be intelligible - between 300Hz and about 7000Hz (the cell phone codec used cuts below 300 and above about 5000, without context its impossible to discern an /S/ from an /F/)
Therefore, if you want the vocals to be carry content like lyrics, playing with a filter is very tricky. Best of all is to ask the singer to alter the voice to how you want it: more growl, higher pitch, louder et cetera. If you use many effects on the vocal, play around with those. If you use a vocoder, why not do a key change?
listen to good vocal tracks that inspire you and take note of how they are doing things
