mono synth: SH101 v DSI mopho keyboard

for me personally, I simply have carried a seller's remorse. I really didn't *need* to sell the 101 at the time. I did need the cash, but i could had other options. I loved the 101, but I was frustrated with making music altogether, confidence was low and didn't see the point, so I sold EVERYTHING (all my beloved analogue stuff). so like others said you're buying a piece of history. (that's part of how I see it) so I don't think the price is too high. I agree you could get more for your money however. But more isn't always better. Which is why I asked the question to begin with: I'm interested in a monosynth, while both the mopho and 101 are different, I can pick only one, and each interest me for different reasons.

If I buy an old bone china plate Im buying a piece of history but I very much doubt history is at the forefront of peoples minds when buying a synth. If it were, I guess we'd be seeing 101's on Antiques Roadshow.

I'm actually looking at both of these, too. I love the features of the Mopho vs the 101 but the 101's filter just sounds wicked awesome. I think I'm going to have to go for the 101.

So I ended up grabbing a second hand Vermona Mono Lancet this sunday. A serious hangover prevented me from using it that day, but today i managed after playing around a bit with it to record this little bit of music: http://soundcloud.com/opuswerk/mono-lancet-tryout
the arp sound is purely the Lancet with no post processing whatsoever. It is quite a fun machine to say the least, and having it plugged directly to my MD i basically can almost do that 100% hardware live setup.
Will be trying it out extensively this week before going on holidays for 2 weeks. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask, i'll do my best at trying things out.

I love my 101 to bits. Bought my first one around 1991. On the 101 its all about the sequencer imo. Hours of fun. As for bass the 101 is very strong. Set the range to 16. Use both the saw and square wave with a bit of 1 octave down sub osc. Add a bit of pwm and assign the saw lfo to the pwm with a slow speed. Instant techno. I did a jam with this sound a few months ago. Check it out if ya want.

I am quite interested in the Lancet, but PWM is only available via MIDI (CC 85)????

This is unfortunately true. However seeing that it has to be hooked to a midi keyboard and that CC85 is the Modulation wheel on those. It's not so difficult to set and pretty straightforward.
I haven't tried it yet, but will do this morning and report my findings.
Spent some time yesterday to set it up with my bitstream so as to use its arpeggiator while it was synced by the MD, but haven't succeeded in sending notes from the bitstream's arp yet.
