It was fairly cheap and makes epic pads!
It's somewhere in between the Juno and the Jupiter, soundwise.
Like a poor mans Jupiter.
I own an Alpha Juno 2 as well. It's awesome, but has a much more aggressive, up-front sound than the JX8P.
The JX8P is more mellow and warm. Much better for pads!
The two synths compliment each other very well and cover most of the early/mid-eighties Roland sound palette. The JX8P even has cross-modulation like the Jupiter 8.
Both boards are cheap mostly because they have crappy interfaces.
But for the money, I can live with editing sounds through midicontrol (and not having to worry about ageing knobs) - after all, these synths are almost as old as I am (almost ... )
