Can they be any good? do they damage the ear more than normal cans?
I want to get some for 60pounds max. Shure? Senn? In some cases I want to use them to play around with production while on the move (i know that the sound is not amazing).

i'm using goldring in ears for my ipod. the bass and clarity is amazing if you are used to apple headphones.
would even consider to use them for producing on the go.
would never use them in the studio or for djing because i feel a bit of pain in the ear when i listen to loud music longer than 2 hours with them.

It can be the best thing you can buy if you think a lot of pros are using them as reference or even for mixdown. But quite expensive:
