What Sequencer Do You Use?

Post by tone-def »

This is a poll for the production forum but for some reason you can't post polls over there. maybe the mods will move it.

if your like me and use more than 1 tell us the others you use and in order of importance.

live as a main host,
reason as a little creative toy for making patterns and sounds.

these days I use ableton and max msp.

ableton I like for simple sequencing... just quickly getting things where I want them to be. it's not the most fleixble or creative system in the world but it's pretty good at what it does.

max is cool for more creative sequencing. one thing I use it for is to use computer input values for rhyhtm, and put in pitch values 'live'. so I can use computer for timing, but be able to change pitch like chords etc on the fly.

max seems interesting but i'm guessing there's a bit of a learning curve.

I'm using Live only, but very much tempted by trying logic out as everyone's been bashing about it's "sound quality".

I also remember it had a wonderful way of treating midi clips, as it was able to create ghost clips, which i've been really missing when i commited to learning live as much as possible...

yeah it's really heavy going sometimes, and the learning curve is pretty crazy. lots of times my brain refuses to let me think about it. :)

but I find it really hugely inspiring, and for how much you can do with it. it makes things as user friendly as is possible.

max for live is a pretty major development I think. you can just use the few fiddly bits that you couldn't do with anything else. and I think there will be some good stuff popping up to take apart or use straight off like there is w/ reaktor.
