I have the ESX 1 and I' am verry glad that I bouth it.
The EMX is nice buth it's more synth parts.
ESX is perfect for minimal techno music.

i got the emx. it's fun and it works well for me. i like kicks and the hi hats. the synths are limiting but in a good way.

i got the emx as well. it's a great machine but I would trade it off for the esx if I could. you can't upload any new samples which can get very boring after a while. the synth is very good I think .

cheers

I've got an EMX, and while I like it, it is a very limited box. The drum samples are decent but like others have said you're stuck with them. You can edit them to a certain degree (duration, pitch, etc), but there's only so much you can do with them.

The synth is great for what it is, but again, it's limited. You don't get direct control over the ADSR envelopes for filter/amplitude -- instead they give you preset curves you can tweak. I also wish there were more routing options, but I'm a total tweakhead like that I guess.

Despite these limitations the thing is a total blast, and I love it to pieces. I should also note that syncing it up with Reason or Live helps alleviate its limitations, and makes using it even more fun. I'd definitely recommend it as a cheap, live-oriented box.
