Looking for an expressive distortion VST.

Post by Farabee »

Topic more or less says it all. Been wanting to dirty up my synths a bit, and although the distortion that comes with FM8 is pretty good it just isn't expressive enough. Ableton's built-in one sounds like garbage.

Looking in particular to dirty up Pro-53 (far and away my favorite VSTi), any suggestions?

I'v had a rough time finding good distortions too. I could never find one that let you adjust the distortion for each side of the stereo channel. I'v always had a thing for the waveshaping displays on plugins and i decided to experiment by making my own stereo waveshaping distortion vst. I'm pretty sure that you can make about any distortion you wan't with this thing if you try, you can pretty much make it as harsh as you want. It's not perfect but it should be fun to fck with and messing with the waveshaping should give you a better idea how distortion works.

It ain't pretty but it's functional :)

Thanks, nice to see someone was in the same position and did something about it. Will definitely give your plugin a good runthrough Torque!

ohmforce ohmicide for the win.

Michael Kingston's REtroband is very nice as well.

Antares tube is good for warmer distortion.

I use my own reaktor ensembles for extreme stuff.
