Production FAQ – Idea List: Please give your input.

Post by harass »

Re: plasters topic (http://www.mnml.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15113)

It would be nice if we could get a small FAQ together which would be focused on helping some of our new members with their questions, this FAQ will be only be related to production, and hopefully could help against the flood of the 'HOW DO I MAKE MINIMAL' Threads.

Because on time restraints, I’m going to need some help putting this together, for starters we need a list of most common questions, and also this is an opportunity to add some information that you think will be beneficial.

I think this could help everyone.

Please add any ideas below, and I'll start work on the FAQ over the next week.

Here u have some questions that shows up in my mind right now

- What sequencers can we use to make music/minimal ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_sequencer

- What is a (VST) plug-in ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology

- What is compression ?

Having a sticky (locked) thread "About producing music" could be interesting too. This thread could handle more global questions as : 'How do I make good minimal', 'What is the best software for doing this or that'. The global focus of this thread could be the fact that no one can tell u how to make music an be original but you. People have to find their own way.
The effort of plaster (http://www.mnml.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15113) is a good start I think. Maybe it has to be written in a more neutral style.

I think mixing would benefit from a separate FAQ. (Serato, Live! etc.)

well then u have to sort them out also cuz some of 'em are just plain ignorant.

and imo also an important thing to concider is, that we need EDM specific information. (I reckon) Anyone (k not anyone) knows how the compression works, but how do u actually use it @ its finest is quite a different story imo... And u can find shitloads of stuff about dealing with guitars or lead vocal or whatever that is techno hardly ever uses, over the internet, but very little about how to deal with your "weird electronic sounds"

...
Image we are all atomic and subatomic particles and we are all wireless...
