Hooks / Melodies

Can anyone point me towards some techniques or tutorials for writing hooks &/or melodies?

I'm able to make a really solid 16 bar loop but struggle to develop it, especially when it comes to synth parts....

Start making your own [one shot] samples...
Layer/stack them, and there you are.
I'll keep my eye out, if I think there may be a fit of some kind, I'll put it back here.
