VolDaan was born on November 5th 1983 in Haarlem. His fist influences of music came from the classic records his father used to listen to at home. However, these influences did not yet trigger a great drive or passion. When in the early nineties the house music stream became popular in the Netherlands it too conquered VolDaan's heart. This resulted in VolDaan listening to cassettes and cds with house influences. As VolDaan become older he became more involved with house music.

This was also due to the fact that VolDaan attended festivals and parties almost every week from an early age on. Clubs included Stalker, Patronaat and Lichtfabriek.

VolDaan bought his first vinyl disc at age 19, even though he himself did not own turntables. He would spin at friend's houses, these friends taught him how to spin.
After a couple of months of serious training and a long time of saving money, VolDaan would finally buy his own turntables.

The first few records that VolDaan bought were namely techno from artists such as Ben Sims, Jeff Mills, Derrick May and Kevin Saunders.

At age 20 VolDaan moved to Amterdam. In this city VolDaan was exposed to a more minimal sound of techno. This resulted in a rapid change for VolDaan, from pumping techno to a more subtle minimal techno which could keep you dancing for hours on end.
