About

Deadbeat is one Scott Monteith, an adopted Montrealer who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden minimal electronics since 1998, for labels such as Cynosure, Force Inc, Intr_version, Revolver , and Scape. His work has been met with consistant critical acclaim from the industry's leading publications and websites, and drawn performance invitations for some of the world's most respected festivals, including Barcelona's Sonar, Berlin's Transmediale, and Montreal's own Mutek. From 1999 to late 2003, Scott worked, assuming various roles, for the Montreal based company Applied Acoustics Systems, makers of the Tassman Software Synthesizer. Having now moved on to pursue his own musical efforts full time, the experience has left him with a passion for the development of new creative interfaces, and a strong grasp of some the most cutting edge technology in the industry. Whether crafting quirky, not-quite-dancefloor techno, or rumbling digital dub,Scott continually strives to create music that honours the past beyond empty tribute or cultural appropriation, by infusing the digital tools of the present with a little of the magic spice known as human imperfection.

Hindered only by the occasional buffer underrun or synapse misfiring, Scott continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros.

Crackhaus

Having originally met in 1999, Stephen Beaupre and Scott Monteith have been involved in various creative projects, begining the same year with the development of the (now defunked) Covert Ops multimedia collective, which engaged in various event/installation projects in and around the Montreal area, focusing on real time audio and video perofrmance, and the development of new interfaces merging these two mediums.

Inspired by the micro sampling work of fellow Montrealer Akufen (Marc Leclair), and international luminaries such as Mathew Herbert, Monteith and Beaupre began the Crackhaus project in the interest of further exploring the use of unconventional sound sources (found sounds) within the confines of traditional house and techno, and to inject their increasingly grown up lives with some much needed child like fun.

The Crackhaus project made its debut as part of the 'Montreal Smoked Meat' cd compilation, released on Force Inc Music Works in March 2002.
