too bad that i can't give you his mix from womb residency. (the link is removed) he used total 6 decks, and a 909. the mix was from james brown to most agressive UR stuff. i know that sometimes his mix is very unstable.
but in my own experience since 5 years, i'd say 85% of sets are unforgettable. don't miss the next gig if you can, you'll probably be very surprised....(at least, i hope so...)

if not, try to google Wave'06 mix, i'm sure that link is still active..it's not the best, but good enough to understand why certaine people like me follow him 'till death...

The whole debate about jeff mills being minimal or not is pointless.
I mean, according to me there are as many definitions of minimal as there are people on earth. Does it really matter if mills matches somebody else's definition of what minimal is ? Think about it, make it out for yourself, and think less about styles and more about music.

PS: Respect to Jeff Mills for what he has achieved as a producer and as a dj. thumbs up.

Jeff is awesome! ( some of you know him as "The Wizard")

Everytime when I see him mixing, I think
"God speed you, you're a great DJ without any Laptop, Software, etc."

This is a real artist for me!
He is a master of his trade!

I saw it here like a year ago... but now the link is dead...

It's a short burst of total sexyness. We can only see the decks, mixer and his hands in it.
that sounds like milligan in japan

Err... are you discussing here who's got the more minimal dck or what?

Jeff Mills is a great artist because he doesn't limit his sound to minimal, like almost all other minimal artists, including Hawtin. If you listen through the Axis and Tomorrow back catalogue, you'll find a lot of minimalistic music, and you also find a lot of progressive techno in his Purpose Maker releases. In his DJ sets you find about everything. So Mills is not a minimal artist because he doesn't create only minimal? Very limited point of view.

Really funny though, that the two best techno DJs (Jeff Mills and Jeff Milligan) have almost the same name.

And who said three decks and a 909 isn't enough today? How many DJs do you know who can actually play three decks and do so live? Probably not more than a handful. And it's at least better than 99% of today's DJ who play two decks (with or without Serato) and still a hell lot funkier than all digital only live dj-sets I heard so far.
"In my life I widened a lot of holes!" (Jeff Milligan, talking about slipmats)

IMO Jeff Mills, Mike Banks and Rob Hood made minimal techno something viable. Jeff Mills and Mad Mike straight up trained Rob Hood. After minimal nation came out on Axis you saw cats trying to jump on the sound like never before. They may have not invented the concept of minimalism but they made it funky and brought it to the world. Jeff doesn't sound mimimal in the sense you hear now from cats like richie etc... but he still sticks to the concept. I think Jeff is minimal but i don't have the same idea of minimal obviously as allot of people on this board. Think about it, Richie made his way up the ladder playing purposemaker and axis records.

five years ago i had the luck to win a BBC Radio 1 competition... all i had to
answer was that Jeff's alias in the 80s was "The Wizard"... me and my gf got to
see Jeff performing for the John Peel sessions at Maida Vale in London, when
John was still alive. About 20 ppl in the studio, John was bringing the beers
and total craziness was floating all over... James Ruskin was also there as
another fan of Jeff... the show was aired live, and we got to see an extra 15 mins
exclusive madness while he dropped some early UR vinyls. i have to say that Jeff
is one of the most modest, shy & friendly persons around.
it's still and will remain an unforgettable experience for me :)
i can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty.
