Has Villalobos lost it?

Post by breton »

Both as a dj and producer.
Seems like his sets and output are getting more and more uninspiring.

Just to get this out of the way:
Obviously on his day he's otherworldly.
And even on an off day he's still way better than most.

With that being said, vote away brothers!

For standards he set for himself - lost it.

On the other hand, his music & sets are far more interesting than most of the music & sets of other djs/producers these days.

It depends, if he's gonna play a fking huge stage of course he's gonna play his biggest "hits" and tracks that everyone knows (everyone whos really into his sht). And they put him after Carl Cox, CARL Fking COX?!! I don't know what was in their wee minds...

nice video's blizt :!:

I also think it goes without saying that most big festivals record sets. Perhaps they don't tell the DJ's and still record the set. Because festivals are all about money, and there's more popping up every 5 minutes... Exactly why I avoid festivals at all costs. why play your absolute best under those circumstances? Its completely impersonal. I've always felt festival sets never truly represented the dj. product of ones environment...

i hope they will release the dm priku remix one day ... anyway, villalobos can always please you if he is not playing big events ... the more intimate sessions where he can play long sets he delivers his magical vinyl skills combined with his selection ... beside zip, he will always be one of my favs ... nuff said ...

on the other hand, ricardo is long enough in the business, the timetable was no secret, he cashes 15-20.000 euro for his 2 hours
so is it too much too ask, that he plays some banging sh!t after cox? as it seems yes.

for me thats something that is wrong with the picture of today's DJs.
in the past, a DJ was hired to entertain the crowd, he was also judged by the crowds reaction.

today the crowd gets judged. if you dont like it, its your own fault, cause you should expect what the DJ plays.

maybe the best thing lies somewhere in the middle.

to blame the booker, for booking some 20 year DJ legend and expecting that he doesn't play some minimal 10 minute slow drugfest stuff after Cox, seems wrong.

also for his "you can never expect what ricardo will play, he is so creative" reputation - he plays pretty consistently the same stuff.

i also dont think people are speaking their mind about every particular record, i think they just mean, he killed the mood. not that his records where bad or anything.
