Mid noughties minimal

Post by breton »

Haven't aged that well.

Sounds dated as fvck.

Anyone expect it to make a comeback in a few years or is it gone forever?

i think everything comes eventually back :) but maybe not in our life time.

i agree if i think about how excited i was back around 2008 to listen to all these minimal tracks .. haha
and now if i imagine playing this at a party, it would put me to sleep.

are you throwing in a minus dig ? haha. not everything is timeless music. I cant comment as I don't own a jpls or john gaiser record, however in the end as minimal records have always been "tools"... played together with another track to create a lock/hook/melody/groove.... i'm sure I could pull out more than a few, but very specific 90's minimal records that i'd play out or may end up in a new mix. it's all on how it could be creatively presented.

not sure if your just saying those two tracks, but discarding the worlds output of minimal music for an entire decade would be a very bias generalization. there is another "90's minimal" thread ironically enough with 1800 views - where people posted their favorite minimal tracks from the 90's.

found here : http://www.mnml.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=88049

perhaps more than a few of us remember those coming out or the summer of those releases. hard to believe that was nearly 20 years ago!

I also think minimal has evolved. what used to be jeff mills minimal / 2 measures loops to what it is today. more songs vs. tracks have also made there way into the market and into out minds. we also now have 10 x's the processing speed in computers opening up nearly unlimited complexity to an artist's output, which is some cases is the plague that's made music boring again - too many options. / so many options that an artist may get lost in their own process.

Guido Schneider still smashes it, IMO. I was massively into this sound around 2005-6. Would possibly still play some of Gaiser's earlier works if it fitted the mood.
