How bad was New Skool Breaks.

Post by eggnchips »

When I go though my old New Skool Breaks records from around year 2000 I think they are really bad.
Not many timeless classics made then hey.

got also some of that stuff. never really liked the slowed down drum n bass stuff. i was just looking for something fresh. ordered a lot from juno early 2000 for some uk sound. electro / garage / 2 step hybrids etc.
i was looking for the sound that finally happened 10 years later. first dubstep had to evolve and become sh!t so the uk people looked for something new with more skills.
techno made me do it

i liked some stuff from Si Begg and Tipper but most of it hasn't aged well. Dubstep killed my interest in breaks.

fuckin hell I was thinkin the same! I went from dnb to breaks for a while and lookin back I always thought why the fck?!
There are a few that stood out and still sound good tho Wrecked Angle - Acid Funk, Beber & Tamra - You Wonder (Starecase Dub Remix), loads of Tipper, S.O.T.E.G, Lawgivaz, 30HZ,Witchdokta (stuff on the Vertical Sound label) stuff , I always liked the electro breaks sound more but I had loads of variations of it...
It got well cheesy in the end, I can't believe some of the vinyl I've got and how I stooped so low!!! Luckily my love for Techno ran parallel...
That said I did go to some good parties, no moodyness and everyone fully gettin into it so it wasn't a complete waste of time!
Check some of these tunes out, theyre still good in my eyes (ears)

Not trying to toot my own horn as I'm not promoting or selling anything but I've been making some breaks tracks. Some of it uptempo for the simple fact that there's so much commercila EDM and dance music in general that is doing the 4/4 house groove thing.

pretty rough time period for breaks for sure. recently went through about 200. never again.
