good luck getting something cheap in london. you should be able to find a decent room in a house for 500-600 gbp a month including bills if you look around and are happy to look outside zone 1/'hip' areas

gumtree can be a bit of a hassle, friends have had better luck with http://www.moveflat.com/ for finding house shares.

firstly good luck with your search. Its a great city that is for sure but getting increasingly expensive. Yep try gumtree.com for the flat shares. I am with my fiance in SW London pay 1K a month £1200 all in. Nice place but expensive. Expect to pay 650-700 for something decent. If your into your music and clubbing (which i guess you are) try brick lane - you can get some decent places for about 700 (one of my mates recently moved in around the 24 bagel shop)

IMO better to go central and pay more than to go out to zone 3 and 4..Others may disagree with me.

yeah i meant zone 2 really, not 3 or 4. i pay 1250 + bills for a (very nice) one bedroom in SE so 1k seems cheap to me...
