<quote>A beggar? Well, no, I can't really say that I see it like that at all <unquote> etc etc. So if you made some music, put it on a label and within 3 days it is on some rapid share site that is fine by you? You are not a beggar (I get that from your several paragraph rant) but give me one reason why a penniless DJ produces a great song, and you just take it without even a thank you.

Also at the end of the day, people like you think you will be a DJ, but how can that be with that attitude? The men who make it have at least 10 years of producing under their belts, with nothing but belief, starvation, tenacity and talent. So now tell me you are not helping yourself to something that does not belong to you.

Have you even read the original post?

I also disagree with piracy especially when done by so-called DJs, but you're missing the point.

I am not sure why you are coming at me with this line of thought. Perhaps you have not heard of Soundcloud... or perhaps even netlabels for that matter. You see... there is this remarkable website that was created to help musical artists share their music with others. Something you might not realize is that there is a lot of people who make music because they enjoy it and they do not always choose to turn it into a commercial product. So... that implies there are people on soundcloud who make music, and they upload their creations to soundcloud so that they can share it with others. They WANT to share it and I WANT to listen to it.

I said nothing about pirating music. Perhaps you assumed I was making some kind of statement that was pro piracy because I made mention of the RIAA. Well, I was really thinking more about what it says about DJs who don't like good music to proliferate... my comparison to the RIAA was meant to stimulate thought regarding motivations and what it says about the subject. I mean... there are many DJs who do not like to share the names of tracks and whatnot. More often then not they themselves have little personal gain to be made and beyond that, obviously have little desire to see their 'cherished' artists gain new fans or make more sales. At least the RIAA has a solid mandate and financial incentive to engage in the activities they are engaged in. I can understand their desire to make money. Who knows though... maybe the DJs who don't like to share just don't like other DJs, I mean, if it weren't for other people's music they probably wouldn't have anything on the 15 year old punk kid DJ next to them? Am I getting that right? I think that is the argument...

You have me pegged all wrong. Yes I love the music... a lot in fact but I have little to no desire to be a professional DJ. The life holds little allure for me. I do not crave that kind of attention nor would I be very happy to have to immerse myself into that kind of lifestyle and be dependant on it in any way. Beyond that, you can spare me your bleeding heart vision of all those poor, struggling electronic music artists and DJs. If someone out there is not eating or meeting the requirements of life because they choose to pursue a career in electronic music then they probably posses very poor life skills and have bigger problems then people pirating their music. Making electronic music is an expensive pursuit and if people are going to choose to make that their lives and are serious about it then they will have to attain a level of financial security if they wish to so and still maintain a good quality of life. Priorities ya know. I have said it before and I will reiterate it here... making electronic music and DJing is a rich kids game. Good equipment is expensive... decks are expensive, records are expensive, monitors are expensive, synths are expensive, all musical hardware is expensive in fact. Nobody it putting a gun to anyone's head and demanding they make some music.

If people want to sell their music then fine, but there is a lot of free music out there an I am curious to find it and give it a listen. Personally for me, I attribute music that was freely given away as having more value then any of the tracks I have ever paid for. Besides, if someone wants to get rich with music I don't think electronic music is the way to go. They should be producing pop, rap, rnb or something a little more commercial.

You need to chill out. Go check out http://www.soundcloud.com
You might find some free music that you may enjoy.
