Need HELP- FREE File converter .wav to 320k mp3 ???

Guys, had a version of NCH Switch which was great and it's packed up on me, can't find it again, any free software out there that doesn't mess around that is small, simple and just converts from one format to another, i'm basically interested in .wav to MP3 320k as I record my mixes onto a Tascam as .wav and then convert to 320k mp3 to post on SoundCloud.


Please can you supply link to the decent programs you suggest. All the ones that i have found so far on Google are wank and either have limited use or add audio watermarks over the top of the track!!!

ya, if you use audacity with the LAME plugin you will get very good results. There are a lot of mediocre encoders but LAME does a really good job. Adobe Media Encoder is not bad but it is part of the suite and I don't know if you cant get it standalone. I think the general consensus is that LAME is the best out there. The only problem is that you have to download it separately and do a bit of clicking to make it work with audacity.

FYI... I did some reading a while back and I think that the best quality VBR is actually better than 320kbs because when there is a lot of complexity in the music VBR scales up to meet the demands of the sound. Many tracks encoded with VBR peak out at over 600kbs during the more complex points.

Thanks for that I didn't realise that about VBR, I thought it would have just maxed out at 320k, glad i read this.
