Need HELP- FREE File converter .wav to 320k mp3 ???

As a disclaimer though... you should probably export both and then give them a listen. There are differences in the way they are encoded and each may contain slightly different artifacts. I can't remember all the details any more but one of the encodings may have more artifacting when things are close to silence while the other loses some detail when the signal becomes more complex. I think VBR for the former and CBR for the latter. Also... most of the information I have come across on the subject came from the internet so I can't put a seal of approval on it first hand. I have not made a rigorous scientific study of this matter. The thing that originally made me curious about the subject is that I noticed that some of my mp3s had bitrates over 320 listed (even up into the 600's) and I wanted to know what kind of software people were using to do this... so I did a lot of reading about for a while, found out it was just VBR on quality 0.

The only problem you might encounter may be performance issues with digital DJing if the computer is underpowered to the task. 320 cbr files are nice and steady so you can expect even demands on your hardware. I guess theoretically with VBR if you are maxing out your system that extra bit of processing might tip the scales but to be honest I doubt it.

I think CBR is better for DJing, but I use control records. As far as bit rates go, I prefer 320 but won't hesitate to drop a track as low as 224. If it's a DJ mix, I usually do it at 160 or even 128 to keep the file size down.

Go with Audacity. I think most will agree that it will get the job done.

I'm using dbpoweramp and it's fantastic. No fucking around with pointless crap etc. I got it when it used to be freeware, but I think they're after your money these days.
