Sometimes I think I’m crazy for taking on so much. I guess on some level it’s a statement about all the other phony ways to succeed in this business. Rather than pull the wool over everyone’s eyes, I prefer to contribute something real to the scene. Some DJ’s hire people to make music for them, and rise up on the success of those tracks. Some DJs whore around on Facebook hoping for gigs to miraculously appear. I’m of the opinion that talent and hard work should determine a person’s success. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I grew up in a small town in the middle of Missouri and I watched my mother and father bust their asses every day to provide for me and my brother and sister. I think there’s an intellectually honest way to go about the business of being an artist, and that’s what I’m trying to do. The reward of this approach is that I get to go to bed every night and cuddle with my integrity. That, and I don’t have to kiss anyone’s ass to get a paycheck.
