I reckon there's a difference between the two sizes but it all depends on the music. I have heard live DJ mixes recorded at 128k that sound great but individual tracks that just scream 128k lesser quality.

I have a test for you, digital vs. vinyl.

I play all Traktor, the next DJ play one vinyl at the exact same level on the mixer, and the sound is 30-40% quieter.
Or to say it in another way, he has to turn the gain knob on the mixer up by 30-40% before he get an equal sound level as I had.

Coincidence? Maybe, but I don't think so, have experienced it 6-7 times over the last year.

the end
;)
I've encountered both situations, there are a number of factors.
Level of mastering of each, differing needle output, etc etc etc

why not use just WAVs or any Lossless codec?

i understand that it was a revolution in the 90s, and it was definitly needed for the internet to become what its today.
but today with harddrives over 1 TB and fast internet connections, its just not needed anymore, espacially in the music buisness ..
i also understand why people dont buy it with the extra euro on every WAV track, but there has to be a change in the future ...

but people just dont care ...

and please dont argue with traffic costs, apple sells HD Videos, and TV Shows, they are many GB big. But they sell music in 256 kbits, not even 320 thats just sad.

interestingly you can flip it your statement
why waste all the space, download time when it doesn't sound any better or worse...

if mp3 can achieve the same sound then why bother being inefficient going for the bigger thing?

wav takes up 10x more space.. takes 10x longer to download... but according to the vid its not 10x better.

btw.... apple sells HD video... but that's compressed too.. do you know why? because uncompressed HD video takes up too much space! even blu rays compress the data because its wasteful to encode every single pixel...

1 minute of uncompressed HD video is about 7gigs worth of data.

like the video says... there's loads of tricks and ways to encode data which makes it very difficult for our senses to tell the difference...
