There seems to have been some expensive solutions offered on here. For what it's worth, I use some shammy leather and lighter fluid to clean records, total cost £3.00, works a treat.

Also, this guy (http://soundcloud.com/pieandpeas) had great success in using glue to clean his records. He had posted before and after samples, unfortunately they seem to have disappeared :(

Isopropyl alcohol is good and cheap.

What are you guys doing with your records which requires them to be cleaned? I can safely say I have never had to clean a record in 10 years other than the odd wipe with a t-shirt before putting it on the turntable.

try buying supposedly NM records when they are in fact at best vg+

these records most of the time would improve by cleaning them

Never happened to you? Or do you buy only new sealed records?

yeah people sell records as mint or near mint just because they haven't been played a lot.. mostly tho those records were 10 years in a shelf without an inner sleeve and are covered in dust.. you have huge background noise and crackling..

huge improvement through washing it such cases ..

I guess I've been lucky, all the second hand stuff I've picked up at stores or on Discogs have generally all been in vg+ condition and certainly all playable. Even the records that haven't left my bag in almost 10 years still don't sound to me like they are due a clean. I hope i haven't jinxed myself ;)

Has anyone every had to get candle wax off the grooves in a record?

Had a big accident at the weekend and managed to rescue my mixer but two records got damaged too!

Buying them again will prove expensive according to discogs so trying my best to find a way of getting the wax out of the grooves.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Joe.
