Any good sites to buy ambient/soundscapes

Post by Kiani »

Hi, does anybody have recommendations on where to buy (digitally or vinyl) ambient stuff and soundscapes? Or maybe just some good labels? I'm searching for the type without any kicks, like in many GAS tracks...

Thanks!

dunno about sites specifcally.

Check out Brian Eno's ambient work. His stuff is among the first to really experiment with the format, and a lot of it is totally perfect. Check 'Music for Airports'

Also I have a soft spot for Kompakt Pop Ambient series.

Boomkat would be your best bet I think www.boomkat.com

There's a really nice 'Boomkat 14 tracks' compilation you should check out http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=158815 A nice selection of dark ambient and drone. Lot's of names on the track list worth checking out which should open you up to some new artists.

A few of my favourites off the top of my head:

Alva Noto
Mika Vainio
William Basinski
Richard Skelton (Cloubeck)
GAS (of course)
BV Dub

(All of which can be picked up at Boomkat)

Hope that helps.

Check out Robert Henke's "Layering Buddha". Pole also released a remastered 3xCD recently(ish) - I think it was called 1 2 3 - his seminal glitchy dubby ambient stuff on one comp.

hi guys, thanks fr the advice. I love droning industrial sounds, but at the moment I'm searching for the more floating dreamy soundscapes, a bit like Boards of Canada or Bola, but without the rhythm, only the 'melody'. Pop Ambient comes close, actually I knew this series, but I totally forgot about it. I haven't had the chance to listen to the ones adviced in the last 2 posts, but I'll defo do it tonight!
