how much copies must be sold in order to pay the expenses?

i know most labels press 1000 copies, when they are all sold, is it enough?

....ok this was 2 questions...
Really? I find it quite hard to believe to be honest.

I'd find it hard to believe as well - 500 copies is good. Having said that about vinyl,I would also doubt many labels are selling 1,000 legal downloads - but I could be totally wrong.

We only make 250 pieces of a release on vinyl, and break even is at 230 or something like that.
Damn!

patrick bateman wrote:hehe, do you think you'll get the exact numbers from the labels?

My guess is that small labels sell between 500-1000 per release. This would often be new labels, and labels not buying big stars to release for them.
something like that....
by buying you mean paying the artist to do a track or a remix for your label? do you know what the numbers are, generally (small to big)?
