I know I am indirectly causing a software vs hardware debate although that wasn't my aim. I agree that software is just as capable as hardware in getting a good sound. I do however think Shed has a special sound and always thought he was a hardware guy.

My point wasn't that their music was soulful despite it beeing made on computers. Was simply trying to point out interesting similarities between the artists.

A bit surprised, as I always thought he had a hardware sound to him.

I wonder what software he uses, and how? Not that I want to copycat him, or even use software for making music myself, just a general interest.

I started producing with software, but I'm now exclusively hardware (minus recording, of course). I've gone so far as to use a hardware looping pedal for sampling/looping purposes in my electronic music. It's different but definitely more hands-on and fun than using a laptop or software.
