try some reverb on your kick. seriously. it gives you the spacy feeling your looking for and the kick itself stays mono. dont overdo it though, or it becomes muddy and looses punch. and fiddle around with the pre-delay :D

Theres two midi modes on the mbase, one with a fixed note (i think c3) and one spanning c1-c3 to play tonally, mabe your sending the wrong midi note?

Some nord or other clavia synth, two electribes (one old one new), a machinedrum, a midi keyboard and a behringer bcr 2000. perfect example you dont need fancy gear to make good music.
