Re: The relationship between Open and Closed Hi-Hat samples
Drum synthesis is something I'm keen to get more into, just need the time :( I think I'm gonna hold onto my Machinedrum for the time being (that's hoping it still works - last night I knocked over a cup of tea and a fair bit of it went into the MD, I turned it off and moved it away as soon as I coul...

Re: Shed Interview: 'No hardware anymore'
Right now I'm torn between software and hardware. I just created a couple of cool tracks using Logic Express. I'll use an older version of Abelton Lite to put track sets together and a radio show pilot I'm working on. I also created some good stuff using a TR-626 playing MIDI analog/ digital gear. ...

Re: The end is near: NI unveil Traktor DJ for iPad ........
For what it's worth I look up to the likes of Moodymann and Parrish much more than Hawtin as DJing idols, both personally and in terms of the music they play in their sets. Which is a shame as they were equally influential in their own ways in the 90s, it just goes to show the direction people take....

Re: For Producers / Digital label owners starting out.
I can't see my day job just letting me piss off abroad for months then welcoming me back with open arms if it goes to sh!t. You'd be surprised. A lot of companies are starting to allow people to take gap years etc. I think their theory is that if they you get the 'travel bug' out of your system you...

Re: For Producers / Digital label owners starting out.
Really interesting thread here. I've been producing for a while but always had school/uni/now the "boring office job" contending with my time, and more and more I'm feeling I could benefit from some sort of sabbatical where I can just focus on making music full-time without these other wor...

Re: good mixer
i experienced way too much politics as a dj. The first time I ever played live, I was shitting it, had practiced for hours/weeks/years in my bedroom. Had put a set up together with Ableton and a controller. My mate had booked one of the uni bars for us to do a night. Second track this woman comes u...

Re: stereo speakers
Try KEF - like those floorstanders. :D My former neighbour who happened to be a producer always raved about his KEFs, 104 I think they're called? I'm sure he was even talking about putting them into his studio and using them as his monitors instead of the Events he had at the time... I second every...
