I don't think the +drive will solve your issue, all the +drive does is to take a snapshot of all your songs/pattern/kits and the sequencer stops when you change snapshots. For drums and percussions I find that if you just want to change the attack/sustain without squashing the sound, the SPL Transient Designer is perfect for it.

Load this up into a spectrum analyser and you will see that there is a sine wave one octave down in sync with the chords and that is pretty much it. Hydrogen, I'm the opposite of you ... I prefer knobs and buttons over mouse clicks. Sure, the OT is a complicated beast, but once you get to know it, it feels like an instrument. It has it's limitations compared to Ableton but that sometimes can make you work in a different way and push things to it...
