Set up an EQ and automate a low cut to roll off frequencies past the attack of the kick when it hits. (assuming your kick has some nice meaty sub frequencies to fill the void)

What Tone-def said plus... I also like getting out and about recording sounds in the street etc. Put these in the computer, run them through some fx chains and usually end up with some good ideas off the back of it.

I usually play around with the automation when creating a sound and make a note of the parameters I want to automate later on in the track. It's worth using a midi controller to do this as different cominations of settings can sometimes produce unexpected results. In most of our tracks i'd say at le...
