another idea is to get one of those crap minimal loop cd's and mixing with the compressed loops--- you'll see if you start with compression you'll probably end up with a loud track

if you're running ableton in session view record the entire track as you think it would work obviously name the scenes so its pretty defined then render it even if your not 100% happy with what you have- don't edit to much after you record it open up the rendered file in ableton and then start rearr...

it starts at square one with conscious mixing, you gotta know what youre after and after the fact- what your track is capable of most of my purely synthetic tracks are really loud, in tracks that i use a lot of samples they tend to be a bit "quieter".. I don't feel like i can control this ...
