Re: How do you deal with writers block?
I'd say don't force it. If you're not in the mood, just don't make music. Sometimes I go a week or more without writing anything. Although, I will play my bass or beat on the drums in lieu of working on a song. Or I'll just make weirdo sh!t on the modular. Leaving the house and doing anything really...

Re: The 4 minute curse!
As AK says, getting a track to the point where it's completely kicked in and working backwards is the easiest way to build the first part of the tune. Personally, I've switched from really minimal tracks that are mostly the same evolving loop (sorta like the Frozen Border stuff), to the complete opp...

Re: Studio equipment always on or not?
I leave my computer on all weekend since I'm in and out of the studio a lot. If I'm leaving for any extended period of time, I shut everything except the computer off. During the week, I shut everything off, including surge protectors.

Changing The Order You Write A Track
So, I think I'm going to switch up the order in which I write the parts to a track. Well, try to anyways. I can't remember the last time I didn't start out a track with a kick, hi-hat and a percussion element or two. Honestly, I don't think I've ever not started a track that way. Obviously, it works...

Re: good mixer
I'd love to DIY a dj mixer. I've looked for kits before, but they were way too basic and I don't know enough to expand on them. I'd mostly just like to design the housing and choose the knobs/switches with the wiring being the kit.
