glitchy idm stuff is all about mangling the sh!t out of samples and then arrange them (do try the rpg8 with some quantisation below 1/16 of short samples [nnxt/nn19, short amp decay, no sustain, 1voice polyphony] to get the bzzzt.) my reason ships and may arrive tomorrow, maybe i can make something ...

gabor uses reaktor and programs his own stuff i think... best thing for reason would be making drums with subtractor, mangle them with cf, ph and scream, export, cut up, import in nn19/nnxt/redrum to your liking. basslines is experimentation, try to analyze what waveforms are used and what the filte...

uvi, e-mu and yellowtools offer free romplers (uvi workstation, proteus vx and independance), i guess independence should be your run because of the 2 gigs of library, i'm sure you'd find something. @mpc - i think the op wanted real instruments, which do sound more organic with multisamples or physm...

did you buy the boxed ableton? comes with eic. plenty of orchestra inside.
otherwise a decent midrange rompler will do you favors(sampletank2?);
i don't think you want to go vsl for just violin and cello.
but the fact is you need a decent multisample one,
those isntruments are all about expression.
