Re: tips for creating acid lines in a piano roll?
The KLF (also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The Timelords and other names) were one of the seminal bands of the British acid house movement during the late 1980s and early 1990s. that's funny, i consider the KLF as classic acid house. just browse their early singles, almost all of which...

Re: tips for creating acid lines in a piano roll?
i'd say the 303 is where the acid sound started. there are many acid house tracks from the 80's that use other synths, or no 303 at all. the klf is considered acid house, and many of their tracks lack a 303 in them. there are a limited number of 303's in existence, so most people opt for hardware cl...

Re: tips for creating acid lines in a piano roll?
set the piano roll to limit the pattern size to 16 or 32 notes. you need a synth that can make good acid sounds. something monophonic, with a good LP cutoff filter and hot resonance (one that offers robust harmonics), square or saw wave oscillators, you can run it through distortion if you want a re...

Re: How do DJ's prefer the arrangement in house/tech tracks?
i find myself connecting with ricardo villalobos' arrangements. i don't necessarily love his tracks (many are quite boring), but the way he balances organic improvisation and subtle/minimal changes throughout the song is hard to do. i generally record the drum parts seperately from any synth work. w...

Re: Monotron Duo & Delay
for $60 you cannot regret buying one. i like to carry mine with me, and run my android phone into it (using caustic, a great 5 synth and 1 drum machine sequencer app). i've been using this setup for my recent productions too, the monotron gives the sounds a nice warm analogue type compression.

Re: Richie Hawtin Interviews Skrillex
it still kills me, underworld doing tracks with high contrast and tiesto. i love underworld, but mixed with trance it's awful music. it reminds me of 10+ years ago moby doing a song with gwen stefani. this is maybe equivalent of orbital doing a track with fergie. *sigh* sh!t happens. http://i42.tin...
