Re: Revolution 909?

Also, if I had to choose between a 909 and an MPC3000 for the same money, I would take the MPC in a heartbeat. The 909 is cool, but it only does one thing(but it does it very well). The other thing to consider with a 909 is that it does not sound good unless you send everything to the board to be mi...

Re: Revolution 909?

The 909 is a catch 22. It is a really great thing to have, but it costs a lot for what it does. I like mine, but I always think about selling it to buy something else that does more. I really need to get a new set of pots from Technology Transplant because mine are scratchy. Part of me wants to get ...

Re: Revolution 909?

I feel bad for these guys because my 909 sounds better through a cheap Yamaha mixer to a tape deck than their 909 does through a 20k audio chain. The thing about the old Roland drum machines is that you are paying for the sequencer. You can get the samples, but you can't get the feel. There is somet...

Re: parallel motion chords - music theory question

I have a friend who is a bit of a mad genius when it comes to theory(he is trying to devise his own harmonic system outside of jazz and Bach, he would be working on the equiv of a doctorate if he was still in the university system. Brilliant guy...) I will give him a call this weekend and see if I c...

Re: parallel motion chords - music theory question

without getting too deep into theory, if you think of a jazz sextet you are looking at a singer, a bassist, a drummer, two horns and piano. In that entire line-up, there is only one polyphonic instrument. Piano is the only instrument that deals with chord harmony outside of the horns coming together...

Re: parallel motion chords - music theory question

Steevio, those are called shell chords. You use the 3rd and 7th on the left hand, and concentrate on playing with the extensions on the right. They are a tool in jazz to open up your playing and allow you to have more fun with complex harmony.
