I only use ableton. I like to use impulse with 808 toms/kicks. I usually zero the master volume velocity and increase pitch velocity to 50% on each cell. For the 8 cells i usually have 8 copys of the same sample but make slight inreases in saturation from 1-8 and also filter changes. Then i program ...

I know this old boy whos a genius when it comes to sound/physics and he says that good quality cables need broken in the same way... im talking about those £100 per metre kind but in may be the same for budgets too.
