For me it's a mixture of both, depending on the cpu that particular track uses.

I use FL Studio together with some standalone apps for beatprogramming (Beatcraft) and generating sounds and noises (Draw The Sound and Fm Dreams Wave). Vanguard sounds very trancy to me. Not bad at all, but just trancy and big, but still metalic and very lead based. It all depends how you use it. I dont like complicated synths and vanguard is simple. SO if you like simple and trancy, its a go. For bleep glitch and bubble basslines, I dont think so...

FL Studio is nice.
