There is a less emphasized method that is much better than making demos. It's getting out, goin g to parties, and making friends! Give them your music, pass it around, it works. Good point. "No networking, no career" is a phrase I read in an article about producers in FutureMusic magazine...

If you want a full featured DAW get Cubase SX. Or Logic if you're on Mac. Ableton Live is a great tool, but it's gets a little fiddly with bigger projects. Ableton Live is not a full featured DAW, but it can do a lot of cool stuff SX can't do. I use both Live and Cubase SX.
