hardware technical

Hey, been a while since I posted here right? I started a modular synthesizer company, not eurorack for various technical & artistic reasons, but I would say I'm pretty knowledgeable on electronics. ( here's my site www.aether-machine.com ) Feel free to ask me technical questions about how to put...

Re: Recording to Tape ( cassette, worth the hassle? )

Tape is interesting. I read somewhere that if tape was deconstructed and compared to digital techniques, it would have a near infinite sample rate, and the sampling clock frequency would have a gaussian distribution (i.e. white noise), because the magnetization is stored by billions of atoms. CDs ar...

Re: Legowelt's view on modular.

I'm hyperopiniated myself and often say stuff that can be really alienating and people can take it really seriously... a couple i was talking to called me an "arrogant bastard" at Freerotation (and they were probably right!) Putting people in the spotlight is partly a fault of the music in...

Re: PUC - midi over wifi

Sorry to continue the OT but thought I would say more about cables, as I don't believe midi without cables represents an advancement in music technology. Here is the main power distribution unit that I'm using for my own setup (and mainly for events). http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/84071 ... PANE...

Re: PUC - midi over wifi

I absolutely love cables... my music system probably has about 1km of cables and I love every inch of it even though I have to take it all apart for every event and put it back together. That's not even including all the copper traces on PCBs and internal cabling. With that it's probably about 2km. ...

Re: modular etc etc

I wouldn't call it purism and I would agree with Steevio's definition of improvised. I played in a improv noise act with some other people and the computer was always 10 steps behind any other instrument... I had to work really really hard to set the computer up to be jammed with and whenever I'd do...

Re: Tape Machines

the Tascam 122 is good because it's robust, quite well built (ain't no studer tho!), rackmountable, and XLR in/out (not properly implemented tho... balanced does not mean equal and opposite... it means balanced impedances w/ pin 1 to chassis for RFI screening... twats).
