I just had to face the facts that it was time to replace my G5 Power Mac, too. It still performed well for Live, but was terrible in most programs that came out after Apple switched to Intel, and PPC support keeps dropping for lots of programs.

Do yourself a favor and don't get a G5 machine.

Try cleaning the contacts on the side that is lower (interface and synth).

Try swapping cables to see if that is your problem.
