Re: MC307... Should I?
You probably won't be able to process your sounds appropriately for the type of music you are trying to make with an MC307 as it doesn't have assignable outputs. The preset sounds will probably sound cheesy in a "perc trax" context. The MC series is underrated but more for retro-type sound...
Re: 90's mnml
that david anthony record is pretty good but is it really minimal? - of course a general 90s tracks thread would be cool too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZRLkXqYh6k was always the studio 1 track for me, all great though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYRpC15VN7E maybe more of an early 2000s track...

Re: Reboot kickdrums. How to make?
I agree that overall it is impossible to compare a professionally mastered track and self-finalized version, but this is more in terms of translation and format, like sounding great on a home stereo and also in the club. But in the case of kick drums, I have played my own tracks alongside very well-...

Re: Reboot kickdrums. How to make?
I have never heard anything too special about Reboot's kicks but they do sit nicely in the mix. Totally disagree about a record needing to be mastered for a kick to sound right - sure, it could help, but it's not hard to get a decent kick on a self-finalized track even with very cheap kit. It's real...

Re: Minimal Tech Tops any tips for hats/percussive sounds?
Don't worry about filters, bitcrushing, distortion, EQin. You're over-thinking things. Just use some 606/808/909 samples, mix them at the right volume and that's about it. Limiting yourself to vintage roland samples can be cool sometimes, but there is a lot more to making good tops than that! Volum...

I love cables too
But don't boo radio frequencies!
One of my favourite sound experiments was tuning a couple of portable radios just off the frequency in the station's control room & using the FM distortion on the feedback as the basis for composition ... fun stuff!!

Re: Legowelt's view on modular.
To make the type of music Legowelt makes carefully study the tired old Detroit-Chicago-NY music from 20 years. Load vintage samples into software of choice. Load a soft synth that sounds "retro." You don't need a modular nor expensive vintage XOX boxes, Junos. etc. Legowelt's music is fai...
